Overview of the SFOUG Q3 2009: Lower Costs with Oracle Database 11g Release 2
Jay O'Leary (President) -- Thu Sep 24, 2009 12:00 AM EDT

Our last meeting of 2009 was help Thursday, September 24th.About 50 people attended the event to hear the presentation on lowering costs with Oracle Database 11g Release 2. The Oracle Database 11g is helping organizations across the world reduce their computing costs through consolidation on enterprise grids, reduced storage requirements and eliminating idle redundancy. Oracle Database 11g Release 2 includes major new ease of use features that make Grid computing more accessible, compression enhancements that can deliver up to 20x compression ratios, and another industry first that now makes it possible to upgrade database applications while users remain online. Oracle Exadata revolutionized data warehouse query performance, and further advances in Oracle Database 11g Release 2 parallel query technology will run queries even faster. (Presentation can be downloaded below)

Doors opened at 5:30 and the presentation started about 6:00 with an overview of the mission of the group and an update of current events by Jay O'Leary, SFOUG President. After the presentation the group took time to socialized with fellow Oracle professionals and participate in a raffle. The 2009 Q4 meeting was postponed due to schedule conflicts and the coming holidays.

Special thanks go to Angie Kaiser of Oracle corporation for sponsoring the event, Charles Garry for presenting.
